But let’s be honest: Even while these books, seminars, and articles may contain useful information, many of those who put in the effort to “get motivated” still don’t find the success they want. Many times, it’s because of one simple (yet often overlooked) fact: They turn others off. If you’re one of those folks doing “everything right” and still not getting where it is you want to go, you may want to consider how you’re coming across to those around you. Here are five ways to immediately polish your presence: 1. Carry Yourself With Grace What exactly does this mean? Let’s look at three dictionary definitions of the word for a clue: Smoothness and elegance of movement Courteous good will Bring honor or credit to (someone or something) by one’s attendance or participation We live in a world where it seems dated to walk around with a gentle demeanor and a quiet pride. Do it anyway. When you carry yourself with the characteristics listed above, you stand out in a sea of self-congratulatory navel-gazers and those with brash, aggressive (and often misinformed) opinions. Walk, talk, and work with dignity, accountability, and dedication, and you’ll get more than attention- you’ll gain respect. 2. Respect Those Around You This sounds like a filler phrase, but this extension of point number one couldn’t be more valid. Respecting others makes room for the appreciation of their presence, wisdom, and right to be a human being making mistakes and learning lessons at their own pace. When you help to create a space where others can exist without feeling bullied or rejected, it shows that you recognize where you end and they begin. Remember this when you’re in a position of power and when you’re faced with a person who’s testing your patience. Showing respect doesn’t mean that you approve of every behavior or agree with every statement. It simply means that you don’t allow your ego (or theirs) to strip your dignity away. There is power in not having to prove you’re right in every situation, even when you are. 3. Rock Those Details It’s time to take some time to think about your personal brand as a person and professional. I don’t care how smart, skilled, or charming you are- if you look, write, speak, or follow-up like a slob, you’re going to turn people off. If you’re lazy and don’t carry your weight, no one will want to work with or vouch for you. What message are your clothes sending? How do your emails and texts read? Do you go the extra mile without being asked? Do you sound confident or timid when you speak? Are your sentences clear or stuffed with filler words? How do you greet and follow-up with people? The more you think about the way people experience interactions with you (from start to finish), the more control you’ll have over your reputation, relationships, and career. 4. Don’t Assume Others “Have it Easy” I once found myself talking with an athlete at the SNL studio where he was hosting. The night before, we’d gone out and dozens of people approached him with a look of total adoration in their eyes. He was clearly appreciative of his status as a revered athlete- it seemed glamorous. But he told me about some issues he was having in his personal life that could have been voiced by anyone else in my social circle. The lesson I learned was that it was easy to glorify those who “make it” and assume that their lives are smoother, more fun, and less stressful simply because they’ve had certain wins we ache to experience. We’re all working hard every day to achieve or maintain accomplishments that are meaningful (and lucrative) for us. 5. Deal With Life Like a Boss Even when you don’t sweat the small stuff, life isn’t always going to be a smooth ride. How you deal while on the bumpier parts of that ride will impact everything from your health and wellbeing to your reputation and your relationships with those around you. Plan ahead, stay flexible, and never lose your grit. Extended Twin Operations (ETOPS) Extended Twin Operations (ETOPS) ETOPS, or  Extended Operations or Extended Twin Operations, describes a type of operation in which air carriers are allowed to fly an extended range over places where airports and landing areas are sparse, such as long routes over the ocean (although ETOPS is not limited to oceanic flights). These air carriers may have previously been restricted by FAR Part 121.161, which puts restrictions on air carriers over certain routes, and ETOPS is an added privilege or an exemption from the stated rule imposed by the FAA outlined in FAR Part 121.161 (see below).  ? ETOPS Defined In AC-120-42B, the FAA defines ETOPS as: An airplane flight operation during which a portion of the flight is conducted beyond 60 minutes from an adequate airport for turbine-engine-powered airplanes with two engines, and beyond 180 minutes for turbine-engine-powered passenger-carrying airplanes with more than two engines. This distance is determined using an approved one-engine inoperative cruise speed under standard atmospheric conditions in still air.In a nutshell, ETOPS came about as a result of FAR Part 121.161 in order to allow aircraft to fly routes that would otherwise be against the regulations per Part 121. CFR Part 121.161 Specifically,  CFR Part 121.161  states the following: …no certificate holder may operate a turbine-powered aircraft over a route that contains a point:At first, the acronym ETOPS was used to describe only Part 121 aircraft with two engines. Since its inception, the ETOPS regulations have been expanded to include any two-, three-, or four-engine aircraft carrying passengers for hire over an area in which airports are not accessible per the FAAs regulations, hence the acronym change from extended twin operations to just extended operations. Beginning in 1936, a pilot or operator had to prove that there were suitable landing fields at least every 100 miles along their route.  When CFR Part 121.161 was established in 1953, aircraft operators  had to ensure a landing area within 60 minutes of their route. With three- and four-engine aircraft, the rules continued to change  to keep operators flying efficiently  while maintaining  a  safety net for aircraft should an engine fail. The first ETOPS approval was given to TWA in 1985, the same year the FAA began allowing  twin-engine aircraft an extension to a 120-minute diversion period. It was then extended even further to the 180-minute maximum in 1988. Today, an ETOPS rule of 240 minutes is approved in certain circumstances for three and four-engine jets. Boeing was the first to obtain ETOPS-240 certification for its Boeing  777 aircraft.   For any airplane to successfully fly under ETOPS rules, it must be certified and approved by the FAA first. The approval process for ETOPS is outlined in advisory circular 120-42B.   Carriers using twin-engine aircraft can apply for ETOPS certification in any of the following categories, according to AC-120-42B: 75-minute ETOPS90-minute ETOPS120-minute ETOPS138-minute ETOPS180-minute ETOPS207-minute ETOPS240-minute ETOPS (for a specific geographical area)240minute ETOPS (based on specific city pairs)

At the very least your boss needs to know how hard you are working and in a culture of job cuts and layoffs, this might be doubly important. Employment writer Gregory P. Jacobson warns bosses and managers to keep information flowing, especially if tough times are ahead, in his article Don’t Neglect Employee Morale in a Down Economy. “Individuals tend to think the worst in difficult situations. Lack of communication can lead employees to assume their jobs are at risk. In addition to low morale and lack of motivation, neglecting to communicate with employees could push them to search for new employers,” writes Jacobson. If all else fails, and the boss continues with the silent treatment then being prepared is a good option says executive/career coach and 15-year recruiting veteran Darrell Gurney. He̢۪s an executive level creative at a global marketing agency, and besides being great to work with, he has an eye for visual design that̢۪s pretty much unparalleled. He rocks it every single time. But he̢۪s also terrified most of the time; he told me as much. As good as he is, and as good as he̢۪s proven himself to be, he̢۪s scared that the next project will go spectacularly wrong or that it won̢۪t be beautiful in the ways he knows it can be. How can he be so good at what he does and still be so scared? The answer̢۪s actually pretty simple- because he̢۪s always pushing at the edges of his experience and straying into new territory. He̢۪s not afraid to be uncomfortable. Think about it. A job that offers only comfort is a job that̢۪s completely familiar. There are no surprises. Everything the job requires, you̢۪ve done before. It̢۪s predictable, safe, and duller than dirt, and it might seem as though such a job would be a solid choice for a risk-free way to earn a few bucks. But the longer you stay somewhere out of the desire to be safe or comfortable, the more your worldview narrows, the more your confidence gets eroded, and the more your sense of who you are diminishes. You might forget why you took the job in the first place. All kinds of tiny things start annoying and frustrating you. You worry about risk and change more than you ever did before. You don̢۪t remember what your best looks like, and joy becomes a concept that̢۪s more and more elusive. This is how people slip into a rut, with the initial appeal of comfort becoming a bad habit that̢۪s increasingly hard to break. As that rut gets deeper, the greater the gap between where you are and where you could be, and the more frustration, stress, and anger leaks out. Discomfort, on the other hand, means that you̢۪re out there exploring. It means you̢۪re in a place you haven̢۪t been before; maybe you̢۪re learning a skill for the first time that makes you feel clumsy or incompetent. Maybe you̢۪re applying an existing skill in an entirely new way, like problem-solving your way through a whole new bag of issues or building rapport with C-suite execs. Or maybe you̢۪re in the spotlight like never before, perhaps because you get to call the shots or perhaps because others value your insights. Problem is, discomfort comes with fear, doubt, and second-guessing, and our preferred response to those things is to pull back and go back to where we feel safe. So here̢۪s the trick: Stop thinking that you shouldn̢۪t be uncomfortable and that discomfort is bad or unwanted. It̢۪s not even that you need to start thinking that those things are good or desirable. It̢۪s simply seeing them as a thing that happens from time to time, and still coming at them with everything you are. Comfort and safety can be far more damaging to you in the long-term than discomfort and risk, particularly in today̢۪s world. Articles of Incorporation FAQ - United States Articles of Incorporation FAQ - United States What is a corporation and how do I incorporate?What is a corporation?A corporation is a distinct legal entity that can own property, borrow money, pay taxes, hire employees, sue or be sued. The shareholders are the owners of the corporation and participate in the corporate profits through the payment of dividends. The shareholders are not personally liable for the actions of the corporation. What are the advantages and disadvantages of a corporation when compared to other business entities?The biggest advantage of incorporation is limited liability for shareholders. Under law, a corporation is considered to be a legal person that is distinct from the shareholders who own it. This means that individual shareholders are not personally liable for the debts and obligations of the corporation. If a corporation fails then the shareholders will only lose the amount of the purchase price of their original shares. One disadvantage of a corporation is that income is taxed at two levels: first on income for the corporate entity, and then at the shareholder level where shareholders pay income tax on any dividends they have received. How do I incorporate?To incorporate you must first file the Articles of Incorporation with your corporate regulatory body, usually the Secretary of State. In some states this may be referred to as the Certificate of Incorporation. Additional forms may also be required such as the Resident Agent Acceptance. Subsequent to the initial filing an Initial Report or Statement of Information may be required. In addition, a name search will be required to ensure that your corporate name will not be confused with any company already in business. What are Articles of Incorporation?The Articles of Incorporation is a document that is filed with the Secretary of State by the individuals organizing the corporation. The state then issues a Certificate of Incorporation that legally entitles a corporation to operate as a business within the state. The Articles of Incorporation describe the purpose of the corporation as well as the share structure. The Articles will also list the names of the individuals who are acting as incorporators for the corporation and may also list the names of the individuals acting as initial directors for the corporation. The actual rules governing the management of the corporation would be contained in a separate document called the Bylaws. You do not need to file your bylaws with the Secretary of State because bylaws are for the internal use of the corporation only. What is an annual report?All corporations must file an annual report. This keeps the Secretary of State informed with changes in officers, directors and addresses. What is an Incorporator?The incorporator is the person or persons who organize the corporation and file the Articles of Incorporation. Once the filing is complete the incorporator's function is complete. After that the management of the corporation is performed by the directors subject to ratification by the shareholders. So all I have to do to form a corporation is file the Articles of Incorporation?No. Many states require further documentation and they will send the appropriate forms to you. Many states will require an initial annual report. These must be filled out and returned promptly with any required fees. Pay attention to any deadlines that are indicated. The corporation will also need to file a tax return and report any income. Other issues to be resolved include obtaining a Federal Tax ID number and if necessary, a Sub Chapter-S Filing. What is a Sub Chapter-S (S-corporation) filing?Normally a corporation is double-taxed on income earned. This happens where the corporation is taxed on its income and then the shareholders are taxed on any dividends they receive from the corporation's net after tax income. If your corporation qualifies however you can make a federal filing as a Sub-Chapter S corporation and possibly obtain single level or pass through taxation similar to a partnership. You should consult a qualified tax accountant to decide how this option may affect your situation. How do I get S-corporation status for my corporation?S-corporation status is a federal application and is not part of the Articles of Incorporation filing that you send to your state government. If you meet certain requirements you may apply for federal S-corporation status.
